2 Days Desert Tour from Marrakech to Zagora

Your desert journey begins with an early morning departure from Marrakech, heading toward the majestic High Atlas Mountains. Along the way, you’ll drive through the winding roads of the Tizi n’Tichka Pass at 2,260 meters — the highest road pass in Morocco — offering spectacular mountain views and scenic Berber villages nestled in the valleys.

Your first major stop is at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified ksar (village) famous for its traditional mudbrick architecture and its appearances in many Hollywood films like Gladiator and Game of Thrones. You’ll have time to explore the kasbah and take beautiful photos.

After visiting Ait Ben Haddou, continue driving south toward Agdz, where the Draa Valley begins — Morocco’s longest river valley. Admire the lush palm groves and ksour (fortified villages) as you pass through the beautiful desert landscapes on your way to Zagora, the last town before the Sahara.

In the late afternoon, you’ll arrive at the edge of the desert where your camel caravan awaits. Begin your camel trek through the soft sand at sunset and head to your desert camp. Enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, listen to live Berber drums by the fire, and sleep in a private tent under a sky full of stars.

Wake up early to watch the sunrise over the desert dunes, a truly magical moment. After breakfast at the camp, ride your camel (or 4×4) back to the starting point where your driver awaits.

Begin the return journey to Marrakech, passing through Agdz, a small desert town at the foot of the Jbel Kissane Mountains. Follow the Draa Valley north through palm oases and rocky plateaus.

Stop in Ouarzazate, also known as the “Hollywood of Africa”, where you may visit the Atlas Studios or the historic Kasbah Taourirt (optional). After lunch (not included), cross the High Atlas Mountains again via Tizi n’Tichka, arriving back in Marrakech by the early evening.
