Embark on an unforgettable 4-day journey from Fes to Marrakech, traveling through the magical Sahara Desert, ancient kasbahs, dramatic gorges, and breathtaking landscapes. This Fes to Marrakech desert tour is the perfect way to experience Morocco’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
Your desert adventure begins with a morning pick-up from your riad or hotel in Fes. We head south through the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping first in Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco.” Next, we visit the cedar forest in Azrou, where you can see wild Barbary monkeys. The journey continues through the scenic Ziz Valley, filled with palm groves and mudbrick villages. In the late afternoon, we reach the edge of the Sahara in Merzouga. Enjoy a camel trek through the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, witnessing a stunning desert sunset. Spend the night in a luxury or standard desert camp with dinner, music, and stargazing.
After watching the sunrise and enjoying breakfast in the desert camp, you will leave Merzouga by 4×4 vehicle and begin the journey towards the impressive Todra Gorge. On the way, we pass through the town of Rissani, known for its traditional souk and historic significance as the ancient capital of the Tafilalt region. We continue through small Berber villages and reach the breathtaking Todra Gorge, where you can walk between the towering canyon walls and enjoy the natural beauty of the oasis. The trip then follows the famous Road of 1000 Kasbahs, taking you to the stunning Dades Valley, where you will have dinner and spend the night in a traditional hotel with panoramic views of the valley and surrounding mountains.
Rise early to catch the magical sunrise over the dunes, then return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4. After breakfast, begin your journey north through the sweeping Ziz Valley, filled with palm groves and hidden oases. Pass through Midelt, nestled between the Middle and High Atlas Mountains. Continue through the Cedar Forest of Azrou, where you may spot Barbary macaques, and make a brief stop in the alpine town of Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco”. Arrive in Fes by late afternoon or early evening, where your tour concludes with drop-off at your accommodation.
On the final day, we leave Ait Ben Haddou and begin our scenic drive through the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass at 2,260 meters. Along the way, enjoy panoramic views, traditional Berber villages, and photo stops. We arrive in vibrant Marrakech by late afternoon or early evening, ending your unforgettable desert journey.
