Morocco Travel Tips & FAQs

Everything You Need to Know Before Your Camel Trek in Morocco

Embarking on a desert adventure in Morocco is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. At Moroko Tour, we want you to be well-prepared and excited for your journey. Below, we’ve answered the most frequently asked questions about camel trekking and desert camping in Merzouga to help make your trip as comfortable and unforgettable as possible.

🐪 How long will I be riding the camel?

Camel rides typically last between 1 to 1.5 hours through the beautiful Erg Chebbi dunes. Your camel guide will go at a gentle pace, and you’re welcome to stop for photos anytime you wish—just let your guide know.

🎒 What should I pack for my desert trip?

  • Flashlight: Camps are lit by candlelight to preserve the authentic desert atmosphere, so a flashlight is useful at night.

  • Comfortable, closed shoes: Ideal for walking on sand and keeping out sand grains.

  • Jeans or long pants: Prevent irritation while riding the camel.

  • Sunscreen & Sunglasses: Essential to protect from strong sun and occasional desert wind or sandstorms.

  • Water bottle: Bring at least one bottle per person before starting your camel ride.

  • Contact lenses vs. Glasses: Glasses are preferable due to dusty conditions in the desert.

😴 Do I need a sleeping bag?

Not necessary. Our desert camps provide comfortable beds with plenty of warm blankets, and our team ensures your stay is cozy and restful.

🏕️ Are the tents private or shared?

All guests receive private tents:

  • Couples get their own private tent.

  • Families can choose to have children share a tent or arrange a setup that suits their preferences.

  • Want to sleep under the stars? That’s possible too—just ask!

📍 Where does the camel trek start and end?

Our camel treks begin in the village of Hassi Labied, located just 4 km before Merzouga.
You can reach the village by:

  • Rental car

  • Bus (we’ll meet you at the Merzouga bus stop)

  • Private transport arranged by us

We offer secure parking for your vehicle. Camel treks usually begin about 2 hours before sunset, so please plan to arrive at least two hours in advance.

Final Advice

  • Respect the desert by minimizing waste.

  • Bring only essentials—travel light for a smoother ride.

  • Follow your guide’s instructions for a safe and enjoyable experience.
